Passage #1
When used for studies of learning and memory, the octopus is a more interesting subject then the squid. Unlike the free-swimming squid which relies exclusively on its eyes to guide it to a tasty fish or crab, the octopus often feeds off the bottom of the sea. It uses not only its eyes but also its tentacles to identity a likely meal. The brain of the octopus has two separate memory-storage areas one for visual memories and one for tactile memories.

Economic expansion continues in May. Government reports show gains in industrial production, personal income and housing starts. Housing construction, however remains sluggish, mainly because the cost of new homes has risen much faster than average incomes, but housing starts does show a small increase over those of April.

During the summer session there will be a revised schedule of services for the university community. Specific changes for intercampus bus services, the cafeteria, and summer hours for the infirmary and recreational and athletic facilities will be posted on the bulletin board outside the cafeteria. Weekly movie and concert schedule, which are in the process of being arranged, will be posted each Wednesday outside the cafeteria.
Intercampus buses will leave the main hall every hour from all the regular stops on their route. The cafeteria will serve breakfast, lunch, and early dinner from 7a.m to 7p.m during the week and from noon to 7p.m on weekends. The library will maintain regular hours during the week, but shorter hours on Saturdays and Sundays. The weekend hours are from noon to 7p.m..
All students who want to use the library borrowing services and the recreational, athletic and entertainment facilities must have valid summer identification cards. This announcement will also appear in the next issue of the student newspaper.
